Some common registration issues:
- Missing course or prerequisite
- Registration holds
- Major eligibility status
For a student to transition from being a pre-psychology major to a psychology major, they have to meet the MER. The MER requires students to earn a C or better in their first attempt at PSYC 1101 plus earn a 2.3+ GPA in the combination of PSYC 1101 and their first two 2000-level courses. Repeat-to-replace doesn’t apply to this policy, so you have to earn the requirements on the first attempt at each course.
New, returning (not enrolled at Georgia State for two or more semesters), and transfer students are eligible to apply for the Online Completion Degree program in Psychology. Current students are not eligible to join the online program. Applicants are required to have 60+ college-level credits, including PSYC 1101 and two 2000-level PSYC courses. Applying to the online program is easy. Start your application.
Graduate FAQs
While we do not require an undergraduate degree in psychology, some social science coursework is recommended. Because the program is quantitatively oriented, college-level math and statistics are also advised. Research experience is helpful: successful applicants typically have worked on research projects as part of college courses, written an undergraduate thesis, or volunteered in a psychology research lab.
We do not offer a terminal master’s degree program. Students are only admitted into the Ph.D. program. Students do receive a master's en route to the Ph.D.
