Dear Prospective Graduate Applicant,

We are pleased that you are considering graduate study in psychology at Georgia State University. Psychology is a fascinating field, and there are a number of enriching professional opportunities and careers available to a well-trained psychologist.

Please peruse our website to learn about the doctoral training available in our seven concentrations: Clinical, Clinical-Community, Clinical-Neuropsychology, Community, Cognitive Sciences, Developmental, and Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. We provide training for the doctoral degree; we do not offer a terminal Master’s program.

Each year we receive roughly 500-600 applications to our program, and we admit approximately 20 students in total across the seven programs. Each application is carefully evaluated in order to find those applicants who have qualifications and interests that are most closely aligned with our training opportunities. Note that although you will apply to only one of our seven concentrations, your research mentor (e.g., thesis and dissertation advisor) might be affiliated with any of our five program areas. Recently, students who have been accepted have high GRE scores, high grade-point averages, and relevant experiences and interests that match those of our faculty. See the section labeled “Student Admissions, Outcomes, and Other Data” on our website for specific details about recent incoming students.

We encourage you to begin the application process early as there are a number of required steps. Applications are completed online on the College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Admissions website. Your completed application will be reviewed by the appropriate Psychology program area faculty. Depending on concentration, a select group of applicants will be invited to interview by phone or during specified interview days. Following the interviews, faculty will identify those applicants who are best suited to join our concentrations, and the official offers will come from the College of Arts and Sciences. We typically admit only those students that we can fund. Student receive tuition waivers and we provide annual stipend of a minimum of $15,000/year for pre-masters students and a minimum of $18,000/year for post-masters students (approximately $23,000/year on average across students) during their training.
